Three Things Challenge #701

Today’s words: dawn – skip – frost

It’s nearing the end of August and the summer months will soon

be behind us.

When we access our weather apps early dawn the temperatures

for the day will have dropped into the 40s, then 30s.

Too soon the frost, the spent flowers followed by unwelcome snow.

I wish I could skip over those winter months – ones I used to enjoy.

There’s something to be said for the adage ‘Too soon we get old’.

Today’s question:

If you live somewhere that it’s essential to own a vehicle for day-to-day

living, if public transportation where you live were to suddenly be

improved to the point that it became a viable alternative to taking your

own vehicle, would you still feel the need to own a vehicle? On the flip

side, if you do live where there is decent public transportation, do you

still find it necessary to own a vehicle?

Answer:

In 2009 I moved back to my hometown. My apartment complex is

located a few blocks from the last house I shared with my parents.

In comparison to the ‘now’ times public transportation was more

accessible back then and I recall days, months, years of taking the

bus to work (even two of them at one point in time).

Owning my own vehicle allowed me more independence with the

time schedule throughout the years; however, since I don’t drive

long distances nor every day the expense of owning a car may

outweigh the cost of public transportation.

I’ve given thought to leasing a vehicle which would cut my

yearly vehicle budget.

Recently I learned the town provides a service of a mini-bus

to local stores and for a $10.00 fee to cover the price of gas

a volunteer will drive you to out-of-town doctor’s visits.

I’m still pondering thoughts and options for upcoming year 2022.

Today’s prompt: good news – bad news

Curious, a few days ago I joined one of Facebook’s private groups, ‘I Don’t Like

People’ and found the high percentage of members weren’t ‘introverts’ rather

those who’d suffered at the hands of others which led them to no longer trust

any individual, even family members.

Today’s question:

When it comes to movies, do you prefer watching them in the comfort of your

own home, or would you rather go to a theater?

Answer:

The days of sitting through a movie in a dark theater seated wherever I could

find an empty seat are behind me.

High ticket prices, truly overpriced snacks and rude people all played a part in

my decision years ago to watch movies at home.

The couch is way more comfortable and nobody is going to kick the back thus

no possibility of a feud between absolute strangers.

It’s also possible to rent a movie on cable for a period of time with the ability

to stop it and restart from point left off.

Overall to remain in a safe environment and spend far less cash is way more

feasible and comfortable.

Three Things Challenge: #685

Today’s words: injury – most – romantic

For weeks the happy couple anticipated this romantic

evening, a candle-lit dinner at one of the local expensive

5-star restaurants.

Tonight was the night they’d celebrate their first wedding

anniversary.

Young, their faces glowing, enjoying a sparkling champagne

toast painted a most beautiful picture of a loving couple.

Unknown ahead . . .

Within minutes all would soon fade replaced by visions

of foreign gray matter, the beginning of the dinner spoiler.

When appetizers were served the young man was

shocked to see several somewhat strange-looking particles

floating atop his steaming hot bowl of chicken soup.

The couple stared at the foreign ingredient. Those minute

pieces didn’t melt nor sink.

Perhaps he should have taken his wife’s suggestion and ordered

the restaurant’s fresh house garden salad.

Although no injury from what now appeared be referenced

contaminated appetizer the man suddenly experienced

loss of appetite and stated ‘no thanks’ when the waitress

brought the already ordered main course.

Poor smiling waitress met with a short-tempered patron.

‘Oh dear’ were her words as she ran off to the kitchen.

Once notified of the situation, the restaurant owner

acted in a most reputable business manner offering up

an apology plus free meals for the couple’s celebration.

The man suffering from a bout of queasiness decided

to cut the evening short.

What a sour note experience!

How unfortunate carelessness of another is the culprit

to spoil such a beautiful occasion.
