Today’s prompt: “on your/my plate”
Although not a believer in wasting food, I disagreed
with a back-in-the-day mealtime rule often followed in
‘Finish everything on your plate‘.
Similar to adults, children’s appetites differ on a daily basis.
Common sense . . .
Place a small portion of each food item on the child’s
plate. Allow them to ask for seconds.
If the child doesn’t finish their meal, then no dessert after

In later years a visit to a one-price dine-in restaurant left me
near state of shock.
I watched as young children accessed the buffet table and filled their
plates sky high with food.
Sadly, unable to eat this amount of food or a dislike of their selections
the plate soon met with the trash.
Perhaps the parents of these children should have enforced that rule
of ‘finish everything on your plate‘.
