Gumdrops, sugar-coated chewy gelatin-like dome-shaped candies,
date back to the 19th century.
This candy’s history states ‘debatable’ with credit given to
Percy Trusdale in 1801.
Brightly colored pectin-based candies, original gumdrops
were flavored with spices.
1. red – cinnamon
2. orange – clove
3. yellow – allspice
4. green – spearmint
5. purple – anise
6. white – wintergreen or peppermint
7. black – licorice
Gumdrops are often used as toppings for frosting and DIY
ornaments.
