Computer Vision Syndrome

Concerned about the impairment of my short sightedness a.k.a. myopia,
I opted to do a bit of research this morn.

May 2022, I visited my optometrist, and he removed my license restriction.
Testing showed I can see quite fine long distance.

Although he didn’t find any reason to increase the prescription for my reading
glasses I’ve taken note of the effects experienced with usage of the computer,
cell phones and Kindle on my tablet.

At times I’ve found it necessary to utilize a magnifying glass to view the words,
especially if they are grayed out or in fine print.

The results of my findings (after bringing up several sites) spoke of continued
direct exposure to the blue light emitted from LED devices and the damage
it can cause to one’s eyes. Ouch!

Although thankful my eyes aren’t suffering from the list of symptoms stated
in that article, I shall take all info read into account and begin to limit time
spent in Blogosphere.

It’s likely, too I shall delete several apps on my phone and replace usage
via Kindle with paid out-of-pocket paperbacks, a preference of mine which
allows me to highlight and ear-mark pages for future reference.

Although technology has proven quite beneficial, eventually we consumers
discover the somewhat tyrannical portions of constant upgrades, updates,
blinking ads, change of formats, complete change of programs, and issues
we didn’t create followed by a request for payment to repair.

I don’t intend to disappear 100% after auto-renewed for another
year. I’ll pop in from time to time to check on those I consider special
virtual friends, the ones with whom I’ve interacted with the past
several years.

Stay safe and enjoy your summer!!

Six Sentence Stories ~ June 9th

prompt word: key

Tackling a challenge as if back in high school, in the early morning hours while
the majority of folks are fast asleep I accessed my cell phone and asked Google
a question.

I wanted to know which of the 104 keys on a laptop keyboard is used the least
in today’s world of technology.

Fifteen to twenty minutes later, after scanning numerous articles, I actually
found the answer, ‘the scroll lock key’, one I can’t recall usage thereof on any
computer.

Closely following in routine typing are keys ‘pause break’, tilde/squiggly (~),
cap lock, menu, insert and function keys (F12 – F2 – F3 – F6 – F7 and F9) listed
in downward ranking of popularity.

When I came across an article titled ‘3 Secret Keyboard Keys Every Computer
User Should Know’ my cell phone battery now drained and icon showing red
forced me to call it quits.

I don’t know if I’m just a curious soul who continually likes to learn, a fan of the
game show ‘Jeopardy’ or the man upstairs wants me to continue down the path
where the key to success is determination.

Forget-Me-Nots

This flower was one of several I chose to plant at my daughter’s

gravesite 25 years ago.

To me it symbolized a connection that lasts thru time, true and

undying love for a daughter whose life was taken way too soon.

Time passed; however, the ache of losing her still remains.

A parent’s nightmare!!

Germans coined the name of this flower and there’s a few myths

floating the hemisphere addressing its floral beauty.

One lovers’ myth, although quite sad, warmed my heart.

It read of two lovers walking the Danube River, spotting the bright

blue blossoms, the man’s desire to fetch some of these delicate

petite blue flowers with petals resembling the shape of a mouse’s ear

(cute tidbit of info) for the lady when suddenly swept up by the river.

As he was floating away at a distance he spoke the words to her

to ‘not forget him’.

Romantic!!

If someone asked me why I was writing this post the honest answer

would be, “I have no idea“.

Today isn’t one of those special days, the more painful ones

experienced by a Mother who has lost a child.

Thinking to myself perhaps the answer lies in an event that transpired

earlier today.

This morn’s social media journey was different as I chose to bypass

articles on my homepage’s slideshow.

Rather I headed over here to WordPress and read some truly

inspirational posts – a great start to a sunny, blustery day.

Before I shut down I accessed Facebook to tend to the garden I created

11 years and 5 months ago in memory of my daughter known to some

as TuffiMcGuffi.

In recent weeks the Fairyland app had been under maintenance.

Today it wasn’t listed on the sidebar and I couldn’t find a way to

access it.

Wonderful!!

Another creation taken from me without warning.

Needless to say although I shut the computer off and figured I’d wait

awhile to check back, my mood changed dramatically.

Today’s prompt: stream

Since forever when I heard the word ‘stream’ I thought of water.

I was totally confused the first time I heard it in reference

to the entertainment world.

Who knew?

The adjective ‘continuous’ best describes the ‘flow’ of both.

Moving on . . .

I wonder if a high percentage of people prefer today’s tablets.

Although the lighting of the screen is good for reading, I still like to hold

a book, place a pretty bookmark between the pages where I left off and

be able to earmark pages and highlight sentences or paragraphs for

future reference.

Moving on . . .

The world of Acronyms –  dislike them – period (.) exclamation point (!)

Oh so fun to come across one of them – three letters and no idea the actual

meaning thereof.

Who on earth can remember all of them?

Add to the above those cute little or sometimes larger in size ’emojis’.

I’ve  discovered many of them aren’t in sync across all branches of

social media.

Talk about the tech generation politely – a bucket full of confusion and

frustration!

Final thought:

Blogging can be somewhat amusing and quite interesting.

I managed to forget my original topic for today’s rant = cell phones.

Prayer – Religion – Over the Years

These days I rarely utilize my computer during evening hours.

I’ve grown tired of all the hype and fear instilled within thanks to social media.

The news app on my cell phone constantly dings with near 100 percent negative

articles.

Windows 10 updated and ‘Hello’ a new challenge with more decision-making

ahead.

This morn I downloaded a pic of a beautiful crocheted granny square only

to discover hours later I’m unable to proceed as ‘I wish’.

It’s evident I’m in control of zilch at this point until I piece together yet

another puzzle.

I’ve come to the conclusion life known ‘n created now phase non-existence.

I don’t understand!!

Little makes sense anymore.

I ponder thoughts:

Better to safeguard wholesome feelings still within ‘heart’

Settle ‘good try’ leave incomplete unfulfilled dream ‘depart’

Seek new direction versus continue move forward ‘restart’

Mirror reflections tenure life ne’er consider self be ‘quitter’

Troublesome times worldwide persona creation ’embitter’

Conclusion – pen words persevere forward personal ‘transmitter’

As a reader you may wonder how the contents of this post relate to the title.

The story began with an innocent young girl’s desire to join and participate

in Catechism class.

At registration she was handed a form which required her parents’ permission.

Returning home with much anticipation for the signature to learn Catholicism

she found herself face-to-face with negativity void of explanation.

Answer: ‘NO!’

Although she wasn’t allowed to attend weekly CCD class, she proceeded each

week to dress in her Sunday best and attend Mass.

Who knew??

One day many years later, married with children of her own, she’d be teaching

religion from her home to young students.

That girl was ‘ME’.

Although life’s circumstances changed in recent years (not for the better), I’ll

continue to maintain my beliefs until I no longer exist here on Earth and can

rest in God’s arms.

The Monday Peeve #33

Oh dear – a day late – belated complaints:

I prefer to be aware, follow guidelines,  remain calm and  stress less.

Two days ago  I counted the dots (33 of them) on my home page’s slideshow.

Some of the pages have more than one article (three to be exact).

If you find one of interest be prepared to fight off all the pop-up ads and requests

ranging in brightness from dull to absolute glare flashing at you.

To rid yourself of them one must locate the ‘X’ – ever notice how tiny the ‘x’ is?

Numerous articles contain statistics while others reader best look at top to find

if current within hours written.  I read an update then noticed it was submitted

three days prior.

I’ve grown tired of the computer and all its’ glitches (wasted time to fix) only

it appears future holds demand for so much more to be accomplished online.

Once upon a time twas nice to speak with humans – now no choice other than

press menu buttons and sometimes face disconnection.

Pray someone explain to me how technology created to lighten the workload

managed to result in havoc and chaos.
